Rustler 42 – ‘Artemis of Alloa’

Guernsey to Gosport – Owner assisted yacht delivery

It was 5 am, a good hour and a half before sunrise, some shallow draft yachts were beginning to escape over the bar of Victoria marina as the rising tide opened up access to the sea.  At 5:30 am, with preparations complete and sufficient water beneath our keel we slipped lines and made our own departure.

Once in open water, the main was hoisted but the headsails remain furled due to worsening visibility.  Within the hour, thick fog had descended; owner, skipper and crew member were all on deck keeping a look out assisted by radar and AIS.

With the damp haze only clearing intermittently to give a maximum visibility of up to 1.5 nm we never saw Alderney or Cap de La Hague and these were both well to the south of us when the mist eventually broke to reveal the glorious September sun.

The Rustler 42, one of only two built in 2010 and finished to the owner’s specification complete with teak decks and hand finished oak joinery down below was a testament to great British craftsmanship.  Over 7000 man hours went into the building of this boat and was, unsurprisingly, a source of much joy and pride for the owner.

With a force 5 on the port quarter, the cutter rigged vessel carried full sail without faltering and kept a good course by autopilot as we headed for her home port of Gosport.

Variable wind direction and strengths meant we had to motor sail for some of the trip; however, 17 hours after setting sail with an average speed of just over 6 knots we were tied up in Gosport.

Lines were tidied, fenders re-adjusted, sails folded and covered and general post voyage tasks completed by skipper and crew while the incredibly hospitable owner prepared a hot meal.

A hot meal, cold beer and post voyage discussion made a fitting end to another successful yacht delivery by Halcyon Yachts – The Rutler 42 is truly a delightful yacht!

Rustler 42 – Yacht Delivery from Guernsey to Gosport

“The first Rustler 36 was built in Falmouth in the early 1980s, and since that time hundreds of happy owners have enjoyed the experience of having their new boat built by experienced British craftsmen.  In 2005 we designed and built our new factory, from where every part of each new Rustler is now manufactured with the ultimate care and dedication of our skilled team.

We are passionate about the yachts we build, and we know that this passion is shared by our enthusiastic owners.  All of our yachts will continue to be hand-built and bespoke in a modern environment, but will use, where it is right to do so, high technology processes and equipment.

Easy to live with, and built to deal with real-life cruising, all Rustler designs prioritise comfort and safety at sea.  Rustlers are deceptively fast with an easy motion, which allows rapid passage times, often delighting the crew, and to the dismay of bigger more performance-orientated yachts!

An active Rustler Owners Association provides a wealth of cruising advice, and indeed a great many of our new builds are for existing Rustler owners. This brand loyalty speaks volumes for the quality, service and value associated with the Rustler brand.

Rustler Yachts Ltd also own and build the Bowman and Starlight brands, details of which can be found by following the link to www.bowmanyachts.com
