From raging storms crashing on to bleak rocky headlands to tranquil bays with crystal clear water lapping over white sand, the beauty and mystery of our oceans have long fascinated artists far and wide.

Carolyn Tyrer, a keen artist and sailor, is no exception. Carolyn says “My inspiration for painting the sea and boats comes from my love of sailing. The water and boat ownership had been at the heart of this escape route.”

Carolyn’s first sailing experiences were on the East Coast and around the Thames Estuary. She sailed a Mystere Catamaran, a Conquest 23 and then a UFO 31. These boats helped to harness her love for the water and enabled her to explore some of the beautiful estuaries and beyond.

Carolyn then decided to explore the inland waterways with a narrowboat. During this time, she designed and then built a 55 ft narrowboat that is now based in Gloucester Docks.

The call of the open ocean was too strong and Carolyn ventured back into the world of yachting with the purchase of a Beneteau Oceanis 393. It was at this point that Carolyn contacted us as she wanted assistance and some instruction with the delivery of her new yacht from Dartmouth to Beaulieu. “We required some help and expertise from Halcyon Yachts. They provided an excellent and professional delivery crew to assist with passages from Devon to Beaulieu and then onto Woodbridge where ‘Gem’ is now moored on the glorious Deben river at Tide Mill Marina.”

As a professional artist, Carolyn takes inspiration from the ocean and is keen to be on the water as much as she can. “I love spending time on the water, seeing the sea in its many moods, from wild days to those times when the sun goes down over languid, mirror seas.”

To get even more time on the water Carolyn has recently joined us and will be helping with some of our yacht deliveries. “I have been so impressed with Halcyon Yachts that I have now signed up as crew. I can’t wait to explore and sail to some new parts of the world!”
